Rad Reading-Feburary

For the month of February I have been reading a book called ALLIES. The author of this book is by ALAN GRATZ. This is a historical fiction book that’s about two boys named Dee and Sid. June 6, 1944: The Nazis are terrorizing Europe! This was a hard war! They needed allies and somebody they could rely on to fight besides with! The only way to defeat Germany was to bring the whole allied nation together to sworn German-occupied France. Dee is a young US soldier, riding on a boat towards the French coast (Normandy). Dee, riding on a Higgins boat terrified as a chicken vomits and wraps himself into a ball. A Higgins boat is a large boxed shape boat that can carry lots of soldiers with one singular motor which is very loud! It was going to be a hard war but Dee was not alone! Behind the war zone stood a girl in France named Samara. Samira works as a spy trying to help the US win by sabotaging the German army. A patrooper named James leaps in his airplane daring a midnight raid. Now the most important one, the medic! Henry is a medic that searches for injured lives to save! Sid had so much hatred to the German Nazi soldiers because of hitler. Sid was Jewish while Dee was German. Dee was German but left Germany because of the dictator ship of hitler. Allies was a form of alliance with France to attack Germany and defeat them together. Every second of their life everyone had to fight and face reality and complete their dangerous missions. With all the betrayal and deadly risks at every movement they encountered, they both had to make it out alive again!

Allies is a great way of learning the history while having some great suspense! Allies provide great fictional dialogue from two point view helping you build up the story on the two points of view on what they are doing to help form an alliance by sabotaging the Germans. Also with this information it’s helping you learn what the allies are? And how they took down the Nazis soldiers together as an alliance! Not only that but Alan Gratz did a great job teaching us the history of the war while including some realistic characters to add some suspense. Rather than a huge book all about the Nazi war that has no story line between human to human dialogue. If you ever want to read something that’s has suspense but that’s educationally at the same time? Read allies!

My most favorite character is Samira. Samira is my most favorite character because she is always caring and loving not only to only humans but towards animal! An example from the book was on page 34. “Samira couldn’t take it. She could not let the soldier shoot the dog, even if it meant to be captured herself.” This shows that she is even willing to risk her life being captured to save a dog from getting shot.

My most favorite quote from the story was on page 35. “She wasn’t going to do what her mother told her. She was going to do the exact opposite. Samira had already lost her father to the Nazis, and she wasn’t going to lose her mother too”. This is a meaningful quote to me because in this situation Samira mom was kidnapped by the Nazi soldiers, dragged by a horse in front of her daughter. With a screaming dying message her mom screamed in a different language (French) to escape! Samira could not afford to lose her mom! She went after her not wanting to lose her just like how she lost her dad. There’s a total of one graphic. Which is the cover of the book. The cover of the book is a picture of Dee in a Higgins boat landing on the war zone (France Normandy beach) ready to fight the German Nazi soldiers. A Higgins boat is a large boxed shaped boat that can carry lots of soldier with one singular motor which is very loud! As the door opens, explosions and gun shots occurred in the picture. Other graphics included parachutes, tanks, explosions and hedgehogs(6 sided pointed ball ish pike) that was used for anti-tank and anti-landing craft.
